One such example is the magnificent Royal Suite by Gucci, which is the main attraction of my stay at the Savoy. The house’s founder, Guccio Gucci, was employed as a young boy at the Savoy Hotel as a porter and elevator operator, where he had direct access to the tastes and needs of the traveling clientele, escorting them from floor to floor. Seeing the luxurious luggage and elegant clothes of the guests was a great impetus to his desire to start his own leather goods company, shortly after his return to Italy from London.
A century later, the Savoy Hotel and Gucci have come together in a wonderful way to celebrate their shared history in an array of creative ways, from design features to exceptional guest and customer experiences. The highlight of their ongoing collaboration is the transformation of The Savoy’s Royal Suite into a reflection of the Gucci universe, featuring furniture, tapestries and decorative items from the Gucci Décor collection. In addition, art and antiques from Christie’s auctioneers have been carefully selected to complement the aesthetic, which has been designed to align with the Savoy’s design and heritage. The relationship between the two was first in the spotlight at the unveiling of Gucci’s Aria Collection in April 2021, which was shown privately locally at The Savoy. The collection and its presentation featured many nods to the hotel and its role in shaping the Gucci mythology. To this day, the latest Gucci Valigeria campaign photoshoot featuring JungJae Lee was also shot at The Savoy Hotel.
Adrian Meyer, Global Head of Private Sales at Christie’s, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity to partner with two well-known luxury brands and offer our private sales service to guests of this wonderful hotel in London. Frank Arnold, Managing Director at The Savoy, commented: “I am thrilled that Savoy is collaborating with Gucci in such a creative way for the fashion house’s centenary.
