Interior designer Kelly Wearstler is known for her sophisticated take on modern design. Her projects span high-end commercial and residential areas, and are recognizable by a unique approach to design that experiments with layered materials, a balance between old and new, and plenty of architectural references.
This home office fully embodies her signature design style, which the designer shared on Instagram. Curious about her non-conformist style, we take a close look at the design of the space and how to strike the perfect balance between form and function so essential when creating these hardworking rooms.
As a lesson in minimalist modern décor ideas, we were instantly inspired to design this home office. The space experiments with mixing different types of wood in contrasting hues throughout the room, from the desk to the herringbone wood floors. The generous use of wood enhances the natural and organic feel of the room, which contrasts with the concrete wall that serves as an architectural feature.
Not only is the desk space visually appealing, but it is also a very functional design. Featuring floor-to-ceiling built-in closet ideas, this space provides the perfect solution for storing office essentials out of sight, promoting a serene environment that creates an inspiring space to work in.
To ensure the room isn’t stark, but rather a comfortable living space, a design choice to display brightly colored coffee table books injects color into the home office, along with other decorative objects like a marble desk tray and a red glass vase.
“We are seeing more interest in home offices in the world of interior design trends, as working from home becomes more integrated into everyday life.” explains Jennifer Ebert, Homes & Gardens deputy editor-in-chief.
‘A home office allows you to get creative and experiment with different design styles to create an inspiring environment to work in. It’s the perfect room in the house to experiment with bold design decisions you might be shy of in a more central part of the home, like the kitchen or living room.’
