STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The New York State Department of Civil Service (DCS) has released the September application schedule for New York’s entry-level civil service exams, and some jobs pay better than others.

Open competitive examinations are an opportunity to begin a career in New York State. These exams are open to anyone who meets the qualifications stated in the exam announcement.

Tests will be either in-person written tests or online tests. Eligible candidates can apply online for these exams at https://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/types/oc/.

The application period is open for the following exams: Building Construction Program Manager 3; Building Construction Program Manager 4; Building Construction Program Manager 5; Mental Health Program Specialist 3 (Clinical); pharmacy manager; pharmacy supervisor; Pharmacy Supervisor (Practice and Registration).

Building Construction Program Manager 3

salary: $100,761

Job Description as per DCS: As a Building Construction 3 Program Manager, you will manage multiple large-scale, complex construction and renovation projects complicated by factors such as high dollar value and multiple deals. You will work as a project manager to plan, design, schedule, monitor and manage the technical and administrative aspects of the design and construction process. You will supervise and evaluate the work of lower-level Building Construction Program Manager staff, or equivalent architectural and engineering staff or contractors.

4- Building Construction Program Manager

salary: $111,627

Job Description as per DCS: As a Building Construction 4 Program Manager, you may manage the construction and rehabilitation program for General Services Office facilities, a group of agencies, or a region. You may be assigned program management for an agency that has a large and active construction, renovation, and rehabilitation program. For any assignment, you must administratively supervise and evaluate the work of lower-level Building Construction Program Manager staff, or equivalent architectural and engineering staff or contractors.

Building Construction Program Manager 5

salary: $120,187

Job Description as per DCS: As a Building Construction 5 Program Manager, you will have overall responsibility for a business unit or multiple areas within the Design and Construction Group or within the General Services Office. You will supervise a large number of subordinates, contractors and projects. Demonstration duties include: Providing comprehensive instruction and direction to unit or district staff, consulting architects, engineers, and construction managers on projects from initial development through construction completion; Provide technical guidance and problem solving for more complex projects; Recommend and implement program improvements; Participate in strategic and long-term planning; Supervising the selection and management of engineering and architectural consulting companies.

Mental Health Program Specialist 3 (Clinical)

salary: $90,806

Job Description as per DCS: As a Mental Health Program Specialist III (Clinical), you will supervise a unit of lower-level mental health program specialists involved in the development, licensure, supervision, and/or regulation of state-operated and/or licensed mental health programs that require clinical expertise. or risk assessment and review of records of individuals who have committed sexual offenses and who are nearing the end of their criminal sentence in order to determine whether civil confinement to a secure treatment facility or release under strict and intensive community-based supervision and treatment is appropriate; and provide technical assistance and guidance on programmatic issues related to the treatment and care of individuals and scope of professional practice. You can also work as a non-supervisory clinical risk manager; Conduct, facilitate, and/or review investigations of incidents and complaints at state psychiatric facilities or licensed mental health programs within a designated geographic area.

Pharmacy manager

salary: $122,627

Job Description as per DCS: As a Pharmacy Manager, you will oversee and manage the operations of a large pharmacy program in one or more state facilities or a central pharmacy operation; Provide clinical and administrative supervision to licensed pharmacists and other pharmacy staff; Plan, coordinate and review clinical, administrative and distribution services; Ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations and standards of practice; Develop, implement, monitor and recommend pharmacy policies, procedures and services; Collaborate with health care providers, specialty heads, and managers to enhance individual treatment goals and objectives and improve service delivery.

Pharmacy supervisor

salary: $111,761

Job Description as per DCS: K Pharmacy Supervisor, will provide clinical and administrative supervision to licensed pharmacists and other pharmacy staff; Review and monitor pharmacy services, which may include purchasing, inventory, warehousing and distribution activities; Quality assurance programmes; pharmacy records, legally required reporting activities, and drug information systems; Medical education and counseling services for individuals and groups; and medication regimen reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; Ensuring appropriate pharmaceutical care for individuals; Recommend, implement and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures. You may also supervise pharmaceutical services for a government facility or program, and/or assist the Pharmacy Manager in supervising and managing a large pharmacy operation.

Pharmacy Supervisor (Practice and Registration)

salary: $111,761

Job Description as per DCS: As a Pharmacy Supervisor (Practice and Registration), you will oversee the professional pharmacy practices and registration of resident and non-resident pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers and outsourcing facilities; Responding to inquiries and complaints; Provides guidance and counsel to licensed pharmacists, health care professionals, legal counsel, professional associations, the public, and state and federal agencies regarding practice and registration laws, rules, and regulations; Attending professional events on behalf of the department.

Depending on the state, the application must be submitted online or postmarked by the application deadline. The application will not be accepted after the deadline for submitting the application has passed.

Application fees are free for exams this month.

To be considered for appointment, you must pass the written exam. The Civil Service Administration may conduct tests either online or using paper booklets and answer sheets.
