Staying at the Luxury Hawaiian Resort, a room costs $1,040 per night, which is well worth it

I spent a night in a royal room in Hawaii for $1,040.

  • In May, I stayed in an ocean view room at the Royal Hawaiian Resort for $1,040 per night.
  • My balcony had a beautiful view of the nearby resorts, Waikiki Beach, and Diamond Head State Monument.
  • I will book a longer stay next time so I can participate in resort activities, such as canoeing lessons.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel was one of the first hotels in downtown Honolulu and is located next to Waikiki Beach.

Although located in a busy downtown area, the Royal Hawaiian is a quiet, historic retreat with modern amenities.

The luxury resort is nicknamed the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” due to its distinctive pink color.

The property is part of the Marriott International group, so I used points to redeem my room.

I used my Marriot Bonvoy points to book a room at the Royal Hawaiian.

I chose to stay in the Milani Tower – built in the 1960s – because, unlike the other buildings, it has balconies.

I used 58,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and only paid a $314 cash upgrade for an ocean view room. Without points, a room typically costs $1,040 per night.

After checking in, I discovered that I had been upgraded to a corner room with a much larger wraparound balcony.

Upon check-in, I received a welcome drink and a voucher for the Royal Hawaiian’s famous banana bread.

Upon arrival, guests are given a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, beer or mocktail.

I also received a voucher for the property’s famous banana bread muffins, which are served every morning in the hotel café.

The room had very comfortable furniture.

My room had a lounge chair, a desk with work space, and a very comfortable bed.

The balcony was large and furnished.

The balcony attached to the room has a dining table.

The outside balcony was large and featured a beautiful brick wall.

It even included an outdoor sofa and dining table with chairs.

Each room has a bathroom and pink cotton robes.

Instead of simple white robes, members of the Hawaiian royal family wore pink and white robes.

Although the bathroom looked a bit dated, it had unique features such as a bidet attachment and a set of seersucker robes embroidered with the hotel’s logo.

Our balcony had a great view of Honolulu.

Our room faced the ocean.

Our balcony overlooked Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head State Monument, and the resort pool.

The building is also adjacent to the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, which has live music every night which we could hear from our patio.

There was historical decor and beautiful flowers around the resort.

Fresh flowers were everywhere at the Royal Hawaiian.

The Royal Hawaiian property features extensive gardens and a wide range of gift shops.

The lobby displays historical photographs of the hotel and notable guests who visited it. Old restaurant menus were also displayed with previous dishes and their prices.

The hotel’s Mai Tai bar is famous for its signature cocktails.

Mai Tai Bar serves delicious Mai Tai.

The resort offers several dining options, including the beachfront Mai Tai Bar, which serves lunch, dinner and plenty of cocktails.

Unsurprisingly, it’s known for its Mai Tai, and the current menu offers several different iterations of the rum-based cocktail.

Live music is constantly playing in the bar, so it was very busy every time I went.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent at an additional cost.

I was surprised that umbrellas and chairs were not free.
Jacqueline Doll

I was expecting beach chairs and umbrellas to be free on the stretch of beach outside the hotel, but I was happy to pay the fee.

Unfortunately, when I visited the stage at 4pm and 9am, there were no chairs available.

If you are planning a visit, I suggest you contact the property in advance to rent.

The pool was small, but we could also use the one at a nearby resort.

Although the pool was small, we could walk to the pool at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Although the pool seemed small, especially at such a popular resort, guests can also swim at the Sheraton Waikiki, which is located within walking distance.

Special activities such as fireworks making, canoeing lessons and morning yoga are included in the mandatory resort fee. But since I visited over the weekend, it was fully booked.

Fortunately, I could still watch the fireworks on Friday evening at the beach while dining on site.

I would definitely book a room at this property again.

I would love to stay at the Royal Hawaiian again, so I can participate in more activities.
Jacqueline Doll

My stay at the Royal Hawaiian was great, and I enjoyed being close to downtown dining and shopping.

I feel like if I had done more research before I arrived, I would have been better prepared with advanced reservations for things like beach chairs and activities.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again – in fact, I would book a longer trip so I could take advantage of all the extra amenities.
