Special tales from each designer reveal Paged’s uniquely inspired 2023 furniture pieces. From subtle creations to nostalgic childhood references, the Alter Ego collection features an outstanding selection of chairs and armchairs, with an emphasis on fantasy visions, created specifically for Furniture Fair 2023. Many new designs have been created by more than a dozen Polish furniture and interior designers, architects and artists.

Founded more than 90 years ago, Paged has grown into one of the top five plywood manufacturers and ranks as the leading plywood manufacturer. The Alter Ego 2023 collection brings together laminate classics in their purest form – from the bent wood Thonet chairs to the 20’s chairs.y and 21streetCentury models with their new interpretations and new additions.

FUN DESIGNS: Matching comfort with style
The Alter Ego collection, created especially for Milan, shows the character of the more than 140-year-old company in a completely new way. Wooden prototypes are an artistic expression full of the artist’s individuality. The Polish furniture designers, architects and interior designers involved in the production are all creatives with very diverse backgrounds and business profiles, which is why the products express such diversity in form and aesthetics. Designers Agnieszka Pikus, Grzegorz Gancarczyk, Nikodem Szpunar, Ola Mirecka and Jakub Szczęsny, as well as Studio Iskry and the designers of Paged Team, are the champions of the collection.

Imagine an elegant and sophisticated Countess – not just a figment of the imagination, but a real creation by Agnieszka Pikus, a designer known for her fine furnishings and bathroom ceramics. This entity is called Contessa W, and surprisingly enough, it’s an armchair. The Contessa armchair helps you assume a position of dignity and full power. Designed as an extension of Agnieszka’s previous design, Paged’s EVO model, the seating furniture is one of the most exclusive items in the company’s range.

Fuoco Arancia and Fuoco Blu are direct versions of the popular Thonet chair, which features a practical embossed attachment for hanging handbags. Designed by Studio Iskry, these mods address the problem of storing handbags in neat spaces – a problem Paged just solved.
“We relied on an ancient Japanese wood-burning technique. What we liked most about our attempt was that we were able to bring out the interesting grain of the wood by tanning it more or less before painting it.” Michelle did not sleep, studio spark.

Ola Mirecka, best known for her creative collections of building blocks for a Danish company, as well as her role as a judge in a TV competition themed around them, has a love for designs that evoke childhood memories. For Paged, Ola took on her own interpretation of the Thonet chair, once a favorite of the modernist architect, Le Corbusier. The Perline chair is enhanced with Ola’s signature feminine elements, which are evident through the pearly beige color palette and the playful beads that adorn the furniture’s handrail. These beads are adjustable, allowing the sitter to engage in whimsical play by swinging their legs from the seat, until a gentle reminder from mommy highlights that the rhythmic tapping can be a bit overwhelming.

The AXIS folding chair is based on classic Paged export models from the ’70s. It was designed by Grzegorz Gancarczyk, a designer and creator who works for the company permanently. The chair folds into a flat frame thanks to the patented wood hinge, which also has decorative value. The product offers a nostalgic trip, reminiscent of the time when folding chairs with pages were widespread in Polish homes, coinciding with the initial broadcast of the Reksio cartoon.
‘The main difficulty while revamping my Sudoku form was catering to the audience’s tastes. “The base and the structure of the model are already there, while the idea was to elevate the aesthetics to a level where one could say it was a luxury piece of furniture.” Grzegorz Jankarchik.
