Feeling uninspired by your yard or backyard? Then let me introduce you to some of the top outdoor decor trends for 2023, hopefully getting those creative juices flowing.
After watching far Lots of TikToks, looking through all my favorite outdoor furniture, and most importantly, consulting some of it actual Interior designers, I’ve put together a selection of the best trends I know you’ll love.
Whether you’re a fan of a chic and sophisticated resort-style look, a quaint country feel, or a bold and tropical vibe, there’s bound to be an outdoor aesthetic that fits your space perfectly – no matter its size.
1) Add a touch of the tropics instead
Want something bold and a little bright? Then replace your bland backyard with a more tropical setting. Natural textures are key – but instead of opting for artisanal types of wood and stone, opt for lightweight materials like bamboo and rattan to achieve a more bohemian look.
You’ll also need to focus heavily on bright colors and patterns if you want to fully achieve this tropical aesthetic. And don’t forget to bring the beach club vibe to your backyard by throwing in a bean bag or two, too!
2) Create a layered lighting scheme
I hate to break it to you, but it’s no longer enough to just turn on some fairy lights and be done with it. If you really want to spice up your outdoor life, you need to get sophisticated with your lighting – so consider investing in some suitable festoon lights, or placing LED tubes down the side of your paving stones.
But to create a truly comfortable outdoor living space, you’ll also need to have some ambient lighting options. “Get some portable rechargeable or battery-powered lights,” suggests Ashley Baker, a senior interior designer at Vista. “They are popular now, and as the nights get shorter, these lamps will create a magical atmosphere.”
3) Embrace vibrant design with a standout living wall
4) Create a nice outdoor group
Attractive and somewhat ornate, Cottagecore is an aesthetic that truly falls flat right At the opposite end of the spectrum to elegant, contemporary Mediterranean style. I blame Bridgerton, because it made us all fall in love with English country gardens (and Regé-Jean Page!)
To bring a period feel to your outdoor space, make your garden a useful space by installing a small vegetable patch or herb bed, and planting colorful flowers with romantic associations – such as roses or carnations. As for seating, choose a Parisian bistro set or a beautiful picnic bench, and accessorize with a patterned tablecloth, gingham seat cushions, and woven wicker mats.
5) Focus on soft furnishings and accessories
It may seem pretty obvious, but in case you’re not 100% sure, I’m happy to report that the aesthetic of outdoor living still stands very A lot of things. So, make your patio or balcony an outdoor lounge by choosing some outdoor sofas and a coffee table that will work well for socializing with friends and family.
Or, for a more bohemian and budget-friendly look, replace the sofas with a bean bag chair instead. “If you love color and pattern, I recommend trying incorporating an outdoor rug and some cozy floor pillows,” says Tori Malone of Vesta. “This can create a unique space full of character, and is perfect for relaxing entertaining in the sunshine.”
