Low carbon aluminum is a winner for Capral
The LocAl range, from low carbon building products manufacturer Capral Aluminum, has been recognized at the 2023 Architecture and Design Sustainability Awards as a winner in the Green Building Products category.
In an age of increasing environmental awareness, Cabral’s locally extruded low-carbon aluminum stands out thanks to its more sustainable aluminum management practices, according to the company.
Kelly Moore, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said: “We are extremely grateful to have been recognized by the expert judging panel, who are leaders in their fields – from universities, industry associations and architecture firms.
“They know what sustainable buildings look like and what it takes to achieve them – and they chose Local.”
Launched in November 2022, LocAl offers two options: LocAl Green with carbon emissions of 8 kg CO2e/kg Al, and LocAl Super Green with emissions of 4 kg CO2e/kg Al – among the lowest carbon aluminum available globally.
Now in its 17th year, the Sustainability Awards are Australia’s longest-running awards program celebrating sustainable design and architectural excellence.
“For too long, window system designers have been talking about the thermal performance of window systems as key to creating a sustainable building envelope.
“At Capral, what we realize is that it is time to go a step further, not only must the window systems we bring to market be high-performance with excellent thermal credentials, but we must also prioritize reducing embodied carbon.”
LocAl is supplied as standard on all Capral window and door systems at no pricing premium.
As Australia’s largest extruder and distributor of aluminum products, domestic aluminum’s reach now extends far beyond Capral’s windows and doors, with many innovative manufacturers deciding to turn to domestic aluminum for their extrusion supplies.
“Uptake spans a wide range of industry sectors from architectural products to solar bars to commercial ships and transportation.”
In addition to its award-winning domestic low carbon aluminum offering, Capral continues to lead as Australia’s only Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certified extruder.
Capral Aluminum is ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2 certified for extrusion, storage and distribution of aluminum products and services.
The certifications apply to all of Capral’s 26 facilities, comprising mills, distribution centers and commercial centres, located in every state and territory in Australia.
At the same time, Capral has expanded its local offering to include coiled products, with the option of sourcing local aluminum sheets now available.
