Scenography at Art Basel Miami in the Louis Vuitton Pavilion
Louis Vuitton Creates a scenography to present Frank Gehry’s limited edition handbag collection at the exhibition Art Basel Miami Beach. Wood and cardboard models appear inside the cabin, contrasting with the five laminated, sail-like mesh structures that reference the facades of Frank Gehry’s 2014 show for Louis Vuitton. The interior design is organized into four themes closely related to the architect, namely architecture and form, exploration of materials, animals, and the creation of the twisted box to celebrate the monogram.
Highlighting tangible objects related to these themes, the items on display fully encapsulate Frank Gehry’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton, from handbags, trunks, and perfume bottles to original artworks, preparatory drawings, and architectural models. Here, visitors can sift through the handbag collection and see the Capucines Mini Blossom with its glass-like resin petals, inspired by perfume bottles, and the hammered LV logo that recalls the logo that Frank Gehry created for the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.

Also on display is the Capucines MM Floating Fish Handbag in patent leather featuring a design inspired by the fish lamps found in the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Another Capucines MM Concrete Pockets handbag has emerged, which uses cement-effect 3D printing technology on the exterior of the calfskin, creating a texture similar to Frank Gehry’s architectural style.
Louis Vuitton’s Art Basel Miami Beach pavilion is also bringing back the Frank Gehry Sculpture Box, a group of eight sculptures inspired by Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” The architect created these sculptures for the 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries exhibition that celebrated Louis Vuitton’s 200th birthday. For Art Basel Miami Beach, these sculptures are highlighted alongside a model of a fictional building by Frank Gehry, completing what the architect describes as a tea party for the Louis Vuitton founder Similar to a scene in Alice in Wonderland.
