Design Director at Boll & Branch

As Design Director, you will oversee the design of Boll & Branch products. You will work closely with the Senior Vice President of Design to deliver creative concepts and product designs that reflect our elevated brand aesthetic while embodying our commitment to superior quality and ethical and sustainable practices. You will be a hands-on creative designer with meticulous attention to detail and a leader who manages a team of designers to ensure design milestones are achieved.

Basic tasks:

Creative design

Using design concepts from SVP, research and create mood boards and designs that align with brand aesthetics, quality, customer and business needs.

Explore new and unique materials, textures, colors and patterns to further elevate and differentiate your brand.

Work with designers to build and present product presentation materials, specifications, and artwork to cross-functional partners.

Partner with suppliers to creatively solve problems and adapt designs to work within plant capabilities and machinery limitations.

Team leadership

Supervise a team of designers to ensure product vision and standards are consistently implemented across multiple product categories.

Mentoring and developing junior designers, and encouraging their professional growth and creativity.

Communication and collaboration

Partner closely with the Head of Product Development to create best-in-class products and seamless execution of design concepts.

Ensure smooth handover from design to key partners (product development and marketing) with clear and accurate specifications and technical files.

Work cross-functionally with internal counterparts in the brand, product copy, packaging, marketing and production teams throughout the full life cycle of the product.

Lead the overall design process, including workflow and approvals, to ensure product milestones are met.

Establish frequent communication rules with the SVP of Design and periodic communication rules with the Founder and Head Designer to ensure the team’s work meets our product vision.

Trend research and analysis

Understand our product vision, brand goals and target customers to identify products and designs to help achieve goals.

Support the Senior Vice President, Design in keeping pace with design trends, inside and outside the home.

Design designs to meet cost targets and margins.


Over 10 years of product design experience, preferably in luxury homes or soft textiles

A university degree in textile design is preferred

Passion for textiles and product design

Ability to sketch product ideas

Self-directed and goal-oriented personality

Collaborative spirit, works well with other teams

Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

Experience in developing textile materials and techniques from initial inspiration to production

Solve problems with a proactive mindset

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and inspire a team of people, especially when formulating design ideas

Works well under pressure, can effectively manage competing priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality work

Very organized with deep attention to detail

The primary location for this role is Summit, NJ. We believe that our business and culture are stronger when we work together in person. We also know that it helps to have the flexibility to work remotely. We are currently working on a hybrid model where all teams work in an office at least two days a week and can provide flexibility to work from home on other days. You may occasionally be asked to work in our New York City office or photo studio in New Providence, NJ, because it is in the best interest of our business or your team.

The annual base salary range for this role is $120,000 – $180,000. It is important to note that our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size, industry and market, and are a portion of the total rewards we offer. Individual pay rate decisions depend on several factors, including role-specific qualifications, experience level, skill set, scope of role, and internal benchmarking among peers.
