CitizenM opens the first hotel on the Meta Menlo Park campus
CitizenM has opened the doors to the first hotel ever to be built on the Meta Campus in Menlo Park, California. CitizenM Menlo Park is located on the campus headquarters of global technology leader Meta, and opened on November 27.
The company said in a statement that the distinctive, high-tech CitizenM hotel marks the brand’s arrival at the Frank Gehry-designed campus in Meta and is its second hotel in the Gulf region. The hotel was designed by CitizenM’s long-term architectural partner, concrete and local firm Baskerville.
The five-storey hotel is spread over 79,400 square feet and offers 240 modern and luxurious rooms. While reducing construction waste by up to 60%, the brand’s modular design reduces development time by three to four months, compared to a hotel built using traditional methods.
Guests and Meta staff have access to numerous amenities, which include an indoor and outdoor lounge, a gym, and a 24/7 cafeteria. The hotel has four meeting rooms, which can be rented for a full or half-day by Meta staff and also by internal and external guests.
The hotel courtyard also has a permanent food truck with rotating food concepts. In the coming months, Meta will outsource the restaurant area to an operator of its choice.
With the goal of reducing local traffic, CitizenM Menlo Park will offer guest bicycle use. The company stated in a statement that at least 25% of the hotel’s employees will be residents.
To ensure its commitment to sustainability, the hotel was built in line with environmental standards, which include energy efficiency, water conservation and waste reduction. The hotel aims to achieve LEED Gold certification, which aligns with CitizenM’s broader approach to sustainability.
All other hotels in CitizenM’s portfolio either have green building certifications or are on track to achieve them.
“We are thrilled to open our doors in Menlo Park, as this city has become one of the largest technology hubs in the country. CitizenM has always been designed to connect remote and in-person work with private nooks and work options in our living rooms, as well as SocietyM meeting rooms,” he said. Robin Chadha, Chief Brand Officer at CitizenM, said this dynamic property will offer something completely unique from anything else in the area for Meta employees and mobile citizens alike.
CitizenM believes in offering “affordable luxury” in its rooms, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to high-tech amenities. This includes wall-to-wall XL beds, widescreen HD TVs with streaming options, rain showers, and iPads to control the room’s atmosphere.
The hotel displays commissioned artwork from local artists, including Alexandra Bowman and Bay Area-based ceramicist and painter Woody De Othello. The artwork within the room was acquired in partnership with Jonathan Carver Moore.
CitizenM first began its journey to Menlo Park in 2016, when Meta (then known as Facebook) unveiled plans for the campus and was looking for a hotel developer. After several rounds of talks, CitizenM eventually secured a bid to develop the property, beating out 18 competing hotel brands. Construction of the hotel began in 2020.
CitizenM Menlo Park is the 32nd brandSecond abbreviation The hotel will open worldwide and is the second hotel in the United States to open this year, following the opening of CitizenM Miami Center. At present, the company owns 14 hotels in the United States and 32 hotels globally. CitizenM has more openings scheduled for 2024 in destinations like Austin, Boston and another Miami hotel in South Beach.
