CitizenM Menlo Park makes its debut on the Meta Campus
CitizenM has launched its second property in the Bay Area, citizenM Menlo Park, located at the Meta Campus headquarters in Northern California.
“We are thrilled to open our branch in Menlo Park, as this city has become one of the largest technology hubs in the country,” said Robin Chadha, Chief Brand Officer, CitizenM. “CitizenM has always been designed to connect remote and in-person work with private nooks and work options in our living rooms, as well as SocietyM meeting rooms. This dynamic property will offer something completely unique from anything else in the region for Meta employees and mobile Citizens alike.”
John Tenanis, Vice President of Global Facilities and Real Estate at Meta, added: “Connectivity is at the core of everything we do at Meta, especially in the communities where we live and work. We are proud to welcome CitizenM to Menlo Park, connecting our employees and travelers to the local community through this cutting-edge hotel.” .
Marking the brand’s arrival at Meta’s Frank Gehry-designed campus, CitizenM built its signature high-tech hotel using efficient and sustainable modular building systems. The hotel marks the brand’s 32nd hotel worldwide and was designed by CitizenM’s long-time architectural partner Concrete and local firm Baskervill.
CitizenM’s journey to Menlo Park began in 2016, when Meta (then Facebook) announced the development of the campus and requested a hotel developer. After several rounds of discussions, CitizenM won the bid to develop the project, beating 18 other hotel brands. In 2020, construction of citizenM Menlo Park began.
The five-story building is 79,400 square feet. The 240-room hotel is the first of its kind to incorporate “modern and luxurious” modular rooms into its building design, according to the company. Not only is construction waste reduced by up to 60%, CitizenM’s modular approach reduces development time by three to four months compared to a hotel built using traditional on-site methods.
Underscoring citizenM’s commitment to sustainability, citizenM Menlo Park was built to high environmental standards, including energy efficiency, water conservation and waste reduction, and is working toward LEED Gold certification.
The property features numerous amenities for Meta staff and guests including an indoor and outdoor lounge, a gym, and a 24/7 cafeteria. There are four light-filled SocietyM meeting rooms available to rent for full or half-day use by Meta staff, as well as internal and external guests. In addition to the M Canteen, the courtyard will feature a permanent food truck with rotating food concepts and offerings, and Meta will outsource the restaurant space to an operator of their choice in the coming months.
Outside, Menlo Park’s indoor-outdoor experience offers access to landscaped public grounds and on-site parking for 132 vehicles and bicycles, with an additional 127 spaces adjacent to Metal Building 22. CitizenM has converted a former surface parking lot just outside Meta Campus entrance. citizenM Menlo Park will also help reduce local car traffic by making bicycles available for guest use, and at least 25% of the hotel’s workforce will be local residents.
