Changes at the top for Gensler, new executives at High Point, in more

Between renewed executive leadership and new business debuts, design professionals had a busy month full of firsts. Read to PoohA monthly report of arrivals and departures in design, manufacturing and media.

To trade and manufacturing

Schumacher appointed Emily Romero as president. Romero joined the company in January 2021 as vice president of business development and operations, and became chief operating officer in May 2022, focusing on Schumacher’s residential business in North America. In her new role, she will continue to oversee Schumacher’s North American team alongside Creative Director Dara Caponigro.

Sunset West, a division of Hooker Furnishings based in Vista, Calif., has named Charles Emmons vice president of sales. He has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and general management experience in the casual furnishings industry, most recently as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Windward Design Group.

Chelsea Helton has assumed the position of Vice President of Product Development at Parker House Furniture, succeeding Roberta Woodard, who has retired from her position but will remain a member of the Parker House Board of Directors. Before joining Parker House in Greensboro, North Carolina, in May, Hilton gained more than 13 years of experience in various roles in the industry, most recently as vice president of product at Dorel Home.

Design and architecture

After nearly 20 years of leadership, Gensler Co-CEOs Andy Cohen and Diane Hoskins will assume new roles as the company’s first global co-presidents. Following the transition, Julia Simmit and Jordan Goldstein will step forward to become the company’s new co-CEOs, effective January 1, 2024. Goldstein, based in Washington, D.C., and Simmit, based in London, will each bring more than 25 years of leadership experience to their new company. Roles – As the current Managing Directors of the combined company, they share responsibility for Gensler’s US and international regions. In their new roles, they will manage the company’s day-to-day operations across 53 global offices, overseeing more than 3,500 client relationships and 6,000 employees worldwide.

New York-based interior design firm Mendelson Group has welcomed Ashley Greene Lehmkuhl to the team as an intermediary designer. Lehmkuhl earned a master’s degree in interior design from Parsons School of Design in 2019, before launching her own namesake firm, Ashley Green Interiors, and gaining additional design experience at Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture DPC and Roarke Design Studio. In her new role, she will support the company’s residential projects with a focus on interior design.

Washington, D.C.-based architecture and design firm LSM Studio has promoted three employees to partnership: Rebecca Montesi, Donnie Murphy, and Mario DiGesi. Each previously held a senior director position within the company and will now take up their new roles to help shape its future.

Media and public relations

Avery Schroeder and Neil Irby have launched 10 Atelier, a custom creative marketing, consulting and PR firm serving fine art, lifestyle and d├ęcor brands. Both left positions at Novita Communications, with Schroeder serving the company for four years, most recently as associate account manager, and Irby serving for three years, most recently as account executive.

The public relations consulting firm has promoted Christine Olson to managing director. Olson brings more than a decade of experience to her new leadership role, having previously held positions with brands such as Valentino and Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. She initially joined TCPR in 2021 as Director, before being promoted to her latest title of Senior Director the following year.

Industry organizations

Andmore has appointed Adam Tracy to the newly created position of senior vice president of operations for the High Point Campus. In this role, Tracey will lead a team managing construction and market operations for Andmore’s 17 High Point properties, along with joining the organization’s senior management team and contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans. He brings extensive commercial retail operations experience to this position, most recently serving as Vice President of Field Operations at Tanger Outlets in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The High Point Market Authority has announced new updates to its Board of Directors, appointing Christy Barbour, co-founder of Barbour Spangle Design, as Chair of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Executive Committee following the conclusion of her service as Vice Chair until 2023. Barbour, the first woman on the Board of Directors to hold her first position and the first Professional Interior Designer In this position, she will replace Alex Shuford III, CEO of Rock House Farm Family of Brands and Century Furniture; He will transition to the role of Immediate Past President. Elsewhere on the board, Jeremy Huff, CEO of Hooker Furnishings, will serve as vice chairman, and Blake Millenor, CEO of Valdese Weavers, will become treasurer.
