On October 25, the College of Architecture and Design celebrated its 15th Annual Alumni and Friends Reception, raising a record $401,300 to support student scholarships, new initiatives, capital improvements, travel, and lectures. More than 360 alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends gathered at historic Gotham Hall in New York City to honor alumni who have made significant impacts in architecture, design, and construction and to celebrate the achievements of College of Architecture and Design faculty and students.

“At the School of Architecture and Design, we are excited to continue to embrace the Friends’ philanthropic mission to foster the evolving partnership between the School and the professions of architecture, construction, digital arts and interior design,” Dean said. Maria Perbellini, M.Arch., in her welcome speech. “Alumni and friends support our students through collaborative initiatives, incorporating technological advances, inspiring mentorship programs, offering internships, out-of-classroom experiences, and career opportunities, and strengthening their connection to industry. Each of our alumni, colleagues, and friends has an incredible impact on our students’ success. And in these times Past and present, their support of the College of Architecture and Design has been more important, helping to fund the needs of our students more than ever before.

Friends of the Executive Committee of the College of Architecture and Design, headed by A Tom Cerbo, AIA (BA ’98)recognized graduates with 145 years of experience.

“Many of you in this room tonight have worked with me over the years, and without your support, cooperation, friendship and trust, we could not have achieved what we have achieved,” Romano said. “One of the things New York Tech taught me is that you don’t need to be the smartest person in the room; you have to surround yourself with the smartest people in the room. I’ve been lucky enough to do that and I’m grateful to have all of you here. Thank you so much.”

Adele Rakor (BA ’11), principal of Adele Rakower Interiors, received the Emerging Alumni Award. In her acceptance speech, Racor highlighted the College of Architecture and Design’s ability to integrate the aesthetic and conceptual side of architecture with the technical and technological side. “This combination is something I have built my company on, and it has enabled me and my team to provide a unique, comprehensive service to our clients and take on and execute large-scale multifamily, commercial and healthcare projects.” She said. “My message to the students here tonight: Treat success like dinner when you haven’t eaten in days. If you’re starving and willing to do whatever it takes, success will undoubtedly follow.

“The education I received from New York Tech gave me the confidence to serve the clients of the company I was working for, which in turn led to me starting my own company,” Modise said.

“New York Tech helped me lay the foundation to begin my journey in architecture and interior design. My education has given me the tools I need to build a successful career and be the best business leader I can be for years to come,” Savoglu said.
