Just because a room is small, doesn’t mean your art has to be. And a quality piece works wonders to make a space look more upscale.
“Although you may need to be more careful about the size of your furniture in a small room, you don’t have to worry about size when it comes to art,” says Kelly Hopter, principal designer at Kelly Hopter Interiors.
“Incorporating large-scale artwork can elevate a small space without affecting valuable floor space—so don’t be afraid to make a statement.”

Were wall panels only for large, large spaces? Not so, says Kelly Hupter.
“Adding decorative panels or moldings can add a sense of elegance and grandeur to small spaces,” she comments.
“Keep the walls the same color – it will add visual texture and interest without looking busy, allowing the room to feel a little bigger.”
3. Display items on open shelves

Display ceramics, artwork, vases, plants and other pretty things object The open shelving gives the impression of more space than it might be by highlighting non-functional pieces.
These decorative finishes work together to create a sense of luxury in a small space, demonstrating that beauty can mesh with practicality when you just don’t have enough space.
“Even if your space isn’t big, you can make a big difference with thoughtful design,” says Kelly.
“Open shelving, in particular, provides an opportunity to incorporate an artistic display of books and objects, or dishes and ceramics into the kitchen.”
4. Keep it clutter-free

Nothing makes a room less luxurious than clutter; They are not visually appealing as well as create a messy feel in the space.
In any small space, from your bedroom to the living room and entryway, aim to eliminate clutter and you’ll instantly create a more upscale vibe.
“Personally, I don’t like seeing coats in a small hallway, and clutter tends to make a space feel tighter,” says Dan Mazzarrini, Principal and Creative Director of BHDM Design and ARCHIVE.
“Try to organize and stock winter clothes and bookbags with closet options that are low-budget and out-of-the-box. Find great options at Target or Walmart and stock them with your own for an upscale look.

An accent light can elevate any small space, and you don’t need to go with undersized lighting either — choose sculptural, oversized lighting that can provide a fashion-driven aesthetic in the same way it can in a larger space. It will add decadence and dimension to the room.
Layering the lighting gives a sense of luxury, along with the ability to dim the lights for a relaxing atmosphere.
“You can make your home look luxurious on a budget by prioritizing utility in your spaces,” comments Dan Mazzarini.
“It’s all about finding the perfect place where function meets aesthetics – installing dimmers works wonders. With a simple tweak, you can create a cozy atmosphere or set the stage for a cozy movie night. 6. Indulge in luxurious, rich colors

Dark colors create a sense of decadence in small spaces, so don’t be afraid to go to the dark side.
The rich, saturated shades will add drama and an upscale aesthetic to a small living room, small bedroom, or restroom.
“Dark colors work great to harness the character and depth of a space, creating intimacy, warmth and luxury,” says Ruth Mutterseed, creative director at Little Greene. “For example, a deep, intense brown like chocolate is ideal for creating serene spaces, encapsulating interiors that provide an inviting, rich feeling of ease and comfort.
“Painting walls and woodwork the same color can create an effect that will elevate the look of your walls creating the illusion of greater height, creating a sense of luxury.”
7. Use premium materials

Whether it’s sophisticated wallpaper in a small restroom or cozy linens in a bedroom, the quality of materials and fabrics you use in a small space will greatly influence the final aesthetic.
Just because you have a small kitchen doesn’t mean you can’t choose marble for your kitchen countertop or small kitchen island.
A beautiful velvet sofa will always make a small living room look more expensive, while a gorgeous bathroom sink will instantly elevate a small bathroom.
As they say, the devil – or in this case the decadence – is in the details.
