The university launches a national search for dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Construction
The Dean’s Office is launching a national search for the inaugural dean of the College of Architecture, Arts, and Building. Clemson University’s new College of Architecture, Arts and Construction (CAAC) launched its first semester in fall 2023, welcoming 1,199 majors and graduate students to campus. In its first year, CAAC attracted students from 39 states and 21 countries around the world.

Featuring five undergraduate degree programs and 12 graduate programs, the College sustains more than a century of design, art and construction education at Clemson. It was formed on 1 July 2023, from the existing School of Architecture, Department of Arts and Nyeri Department of Building, Development and Planning.
While the college unifies programs historically housed on the Lee Hall campus, it also expands Clemson’s reach across the state and around the world, giving students the opportunity to have hands-on, immersive educational experiences. Nieri’s Department of Construction Development and Planning offers students on-site experiences in the three-acre Experiential Learning Park (XL), and the master’s program in real estate development is located in downtown Greenville at GreenvilleONE. The College of Architecture of Charleston’s trademark Fluid Campus® system; Barcelona, Spain; And Genoa, Italy. This year, CAAC will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Art Department’s Master of Fine Arts program, which features works by graduate artists ranging from South Carolina to Japan.
George J. was appointed Petersen, Distinguished Professor of Educational Innovation at Clemson University, will be appointed interim dean of the newly formed College of Architecture, Arts, and Construction (CAAC) in April 2023.
