The Seattle family home of celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin and photographer husband Mike Rosenthal features modern ideas for a minimalist kitchen.
Upon purchasing the property, the couple turned to interior design studio NowHaus Studio to transform the home into a functional and personal space that exudes a sense of calm throughout.
While the entire house reflects a simple, minimalist decor style and features mid-century modern furniture, it’s the kitchen that we get a closer look at, which you can see below.
“This gorgeous kitchen seamlessly blends mid-century style with contemporary design for a space that feels nostalgic and fresh,” explains interior designer Rudolf Diesel.
“Clean lines and minimalist aesthetics create a light, airy, uncluttered yet comfortable look,” he continues.
While the kitchen design elements are still fairly simple, Diesel suggests that sleek wood-clad kitchen cabinets give the room a warm feel: “A key mid-century detail are the simple wood cabinets that line the walls.” Rich wood grains and muted brown tones provide organic warmth against the room’s neutral backdrop, reflecting the silhouettes of popular mid-century furniture.
Rudolph Diesel is the founder of Rudolph Diesel Interiors, a property marketing and design company based in West London. He has Public Relations qualifications and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and Branding. He is the lead interior designer for prestigious property development companies across London.
To break up the wood decor of the room, adding foliage on an oversized carved vase on the kitchen island provides a point of interest and also helps enhance the feeling of bringing the outdoors into the home, perfect for the undoubtedly stunning surroundings. This house is in Seattle.
The use of contrasting hardware is another simpler design feature that provides balance, Diesel suggests: “Pops of black in the fixtures and stone countertops provide elegant definition.” This monochrome color scheme feels nostalgic for antiquity but is also very modern.’
