The city of Winooski is now one step closer to building its first hotel. The Winooski Falls East plan has been in the works for more than three years. The building will now contain a hotel and rental housing. The City Council approved the design plans Monday night. The building will be located at 17 Abenaki Road, directly behind Fairmont Community College, and the hotel will have 115 rooms. “The hotel is one of the last pieces we need to achieve what the city envisioned for economic development here,” he said. Christine Lott, Mayor of Winooski. Original plans for the project called for businesses in the area, but now, that area will be used to build between 80 and 85 long-term rental housing units. Some of these units will be designated for affordable housing. “We want to make sure we meet the needs of the workforce supported here,” Lott said. Besides the hotel and rental units, Lott said the building will also have a large ventilation space, a municipal parking garage with some space designated for CCV, and a rooftop restaurant space. “We don't have a rooftop facility yet in the city, so I know a lot of people are excited about that,” Lott said. The mayor said that the location is suitable because it is located within walking distance of the businesses located on the roundabout in the city center. “We've seen it before,” Lott said. Overall, Lott said the project will help improve the quality of life in Winooski for residents and visitors alike. “Towards this vision of being able to live, work and play in the same area,” Lott said. The next step in the project is the completion of the on-site parking garage, which is expected to be completed within the next five months.

“The hotel is one of the last pieces we need for what the city envisions for economic development here,” Winooski Mayor Christine Lott said.

“We don’t have a rooftop facility yet in the city, so I know a lot of people are excited about that,” Lott said.

The mayor said the location is convenient because it is within walking distance of businesses on the downtown roundabout.

“Downtown has seen a lot of vitality. We’re seeing a lot more businesses and small, local businesses than we’ve ever seen before,” Lott said.

Overall, Lott said the project will help improve the quality of life in Winooski for residents and visitors alike.

“The vision for the Winooski community is for it to be bikeable, walkable, and multi-modal, and this helps us work toward that vision of being able to live, work and play in the same area,” Lott said.

The next step in the project is the completion of the on-site parking garage, which is expected to be completed within the next five months.
